The trick to making the most of your time with a busy schedule is to have a plan and know where everything is. It’s one thing to have a plan, but if you have to spend half your time setting up and hunting down what you need, you’ve just lost time you could spend creating something wonderful. Read on…
Warm colors and cool textures bring back the past
August 31st, 2010
One of my favorite styles is the vintage look… Worn fabrics, faded colors and torn edges. This past week I noticed some fabulous color trends while browsing through a few home decor magazines and websites that compliment the vintage yet modern look I love so much. Read on…
Do you photo share?
August 28th, 2010
Instead of just creating scrapbook pages, do you also share your photos on community sites such as Facebook or Flickr? Sharing photos online can be a fun way to keep other family and friends up-to-date on what you are up to while you create beautiful memory books to share at home. Read on…
Using paper scraps for other crafts
August 24th, 2010
With all the fabulous scrapbook pages you’ve created, cutting out borders and adding paper accents, have you found that you now have a pile of miscellaneous paper scraps? You can use these scraps in other page layouts, but don’t forget you can also use these pretty little pieces of paper in other craft projects entirely.
I like to cut various shapes allowing the paper patterns to fill the space. I then use a fine point pen to add extra accents to the pieces to better define the image. You can create greeting cards, wall art, and a number of different craft pieces just using your scrapbook paper left overs.
Here’s one project I created a while back using different papers to create the entire art piece on a wood birdhouse:
I used Mod Podge to decopague the paper in place and then added my own extra “doodles” using a black ink pen.
You can add variations to your paper art with accents from pens, paints or stamps. Try mixing in other items to create pretty collages and fancy wall art. Another fun idea is to use papers from trips such as brochures, maps, shopping bags and napkins and create collages using this tiny pieces of memoriabilia to showcase the adventures you’ve been on.
Every princess needs a little sparkle
August 21st, 2010
Inspired by our recent trip to Disney, I decided it was time to get out the glitter and gems and create a page fit for a princess. You don’t need a lot of extra supplies to create a royal layout. You just need some bling and a bit of creative thinking. You can even use pieces and parts you already have, matching them together to create a complete look. Read on…
Give your photos a lift
August 17th, 2010
One of my favorite techniques is adding spacers to give the impression of a more 3 dimensional layout. While working in a frame shop years ago, I discovered the technique of spacers when applying multiple mats to a framed image. This simple 1/8″ to 1/4″ layer adds depth and variation to otherwise flat layouts. Read on…
Mix, match and make it work
August 14th, 2010
have you ever noticed the cute mis-matched layouts or outfits some people put together? Stripes with dots and flowers, yet they look absolutely adorable! It’s not that some people can pull off the look successfully and some can’t, is about color combinations and size relationships. Read on…
Using sight seeing brochures for your pages
August 10th, 2010
I just got back from a fabulous family vacation to Disney World in Orlando. Along with all the great memories, I brought hope piles of paper “stuff” to remind me of where we went and what we did. Instead of throwing out all the brochures and maps of the parks, I thought it would be fun to incorporate these different papers into scrapbook page designs. Read on…
Piles of scissors
August 7th, 2010
A while back I talked a bit about my love for actually handling supplies when creating my scrapbooks. I titled it “I prefer to cut my paper with real scissors thank you“, but I didn’t show my paper cutting supply stash. Today I was going through photos and found I had actually taken a picture of some of my scissors and had to giggle. Read on…
Every day memories
August 3rd, 2010
I recently changed my work location. I work on a laptop so I frequently move around the house and for the longest time I was in the kitchen. This allowed me to work where I could see and interact with the kids all day long. However at mealtimes I always had a pile of something surrounding the table. This wasn’t an issue until I started making more and more craft and scrapbook projects. Read on…
